This is the Concert Series for the Spring Term 2010. All Concerts start at 1pm in Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall. Entry is free for Music Society members and £2 for non-members. Please come along from 12:45.

| 8 | Friday | 18/06/2010 | Music for Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' by Thomas Linley Junior and the Decameron Guitar Quartet | In this concert an ensemble of talented musicians from the University bring Linley's music back to life in what is probably the first live concert hall performance of Linley's incidental music to Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' since it's original run at the Drury Lane Theatre in eighteenth century London. Followed by an eclectic mix of influence and repertoire, the current line-up of the Decameron Guitar Quartet gives its final performance. Come and witness the end of an era *sniff*, and the promise of new beginnings. | |
| 9 | Monday | 21/06/2010 | Russian Flute Music and The Pirttijarvi Players Vocal Consort | Come along to the Jack Lyons to hear Ruth Keggin and the legendary Mark Hutchinson play a beautiful suite of Azerbaijani music for flute and piano by Fikret Amirov, a prominent composer during the Soviet period. Warning: may contain folk melodies. Followed by vivacious young conductor Shaun Pirrtijarvi presents one of Purcell's finest works: Come ye Sons of Art, featuring Shaun himself on harpsichord with the Pirttijarvi players and soloists including Charlie Murray, who is making his solo debut in this concert- your support for this budding young baritone is welcomed! | |
